When we worship God, we are honored to come into the presence of One who created the heaven's and the earth. How, when, and why we worship, is clearly outlined for us in God's Word.

1) And let the priests also, which come near to the LORD, sanctify themselves, lest the LORD break forth upon them... Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: Exodus 19:22, Leviticus 20:7

(Ministers are called to live godly and exemplary lives and, as such, they should ever keep in mind the sacredness and honor of serving a holy God.)

2) Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the LORD. Leviticus 26:2

(We show respect for God by how we conduct ourselves when we come before HIm.)

3) Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them. Deuteronomy 11:16

(The temptation to follow the world is all around us, even when it comes to worship. The focus of worship is not about what we desire; “Because the carnal mind is enmity against God.” (Romans 8:7) If we gauge a worship service by how it makes us feel, then we have missed the true meaning of worship.)

4) Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness. I Chronicles 16:29

(Part of worship is to selflessly give of our reasources and talents to God. In doing this, we reflect His image and glorify His name.)

5) But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple. Psalms 5:7

(We should ever keep in mind that God is our Creator. It is an awesome yet humbling experience to worship Him, and it is by our words and actions that we show the love and respect due His Holy name.)

6) The LORD is in his holy temple, the LORD’S throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men. Psalms 11:4

(God sees everything we do and knows the secret intents of our hearts.)

7) Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. Psalms 24:3-4

(If we truly desire our worship services to glorify God, we need our hearts to be renewed by His Spirit. For “...as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;” (I Peter 1:15).)

8) Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness. Psalms 29:2

(Holiness, the transformation of our hearts, is what we all need in order for our worship services to be acceptable to God.)

9) Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Psalms 84:4

(What a joy and privilege we have to worship God and to spend sacred and holy time with Him.)

10) O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker. Psalms 95:6

(Kneeling is an act of humility, and a minister who bows in prayer before speaking exemplifies this principle.)

11) Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. Psalms 100:4

(An important part of worship is where we joyfully praise God for His abundant goodness and bountiful blessings.) <- Back | Next ->
12) Stand in the gate of the LORD’S house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of the LORD. Jeremiah 7:2

(As we worship God a transformation takes place by “beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord. ” (II Corinthians 3:18))

13) But the LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him. Habakkuk 2:20

(An important part of worship is to quietly and reverently listen to God’s voice.)

14) But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. Matthew 15:9

(Sadly, some people truly believe they are worshipping God even though what they do is not in harmony with His Word.)

15) God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. John 4:24

(Our worship glorifies God when our hearts are in tune with His Spirit and our minds are led by His will.)

16) he four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne... Revelation 4:10

(In many modern, and ancient worship services, people praise and honor themselves, but those who worship God in Heaven exalt Him, as they bow before His throne.)
